About Thad Altman:

For more than fifty years, Thad Altman has lived in East Central Florida. He played baseball at the University of Houston and later completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science degree from Rollins College in 1987. Thad lives in Melbourne with his wife Mary Pat, and their three children; McKenzie, Hunter and Sullivan.

Thad Altman has a long history of public service and living by conservative Republican principles. As a Brevard County Commissioner, State Representative and State Senator, Thad has fought to pass tax cuts for Florida families, protect and create jobs and keep government living within its means. As State Senator, Thad currently serves as Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Tax, and is working on passing a comprehensive tax cut for Florida small businesses to encourage job growth in Florida.

Accomplishments

As your State Senator he has been a force for better policies that will help small businesses create jobs and keep high-paying jobs in the Space Coast for the long-term.

  • Supports legislation providing tax incentives to bring aerospace and high-tech jobs to Florida
  • Led and won the fight to prevent the Department of Children and Families from setting up a state registry of Florida gun owners
  • Authoring a bill to slash Florida's businesses tax to create new, higher-paying jobs in Florida
  • Co-Chairman, Space Caucus

As a Brevard County Commissioner his initiatives helped create the Brevard Zoo and bring the new VA Clinic and spring training baseball to Viera, efforts that brought new, permanent jobs to Brevard. He served Brevard County as:

  • Chairman of the County Commission
  • Chairman of the Regional Planning Commission
  • Chairman of the Tourist Development Commission

As a State Representative since 2003, he worked to bring more high tech and aerospace jobs to Central Florida in preparation for the retirement of the Space Shuttle program, equip our schools to better prepare children for careers, and assist military families. In the House, he has served as:

  • Chair of the Education Innovation and Career Preparation Committee
  • Member of the Environmental Protection and Financial Institutions Committees
  • Appointee of the House Speaker to the Boards of Space Florida and Workforce Florida
